St Barnabas Electoral Roll

The electoral roll is the nearest thing the parish of St Barnabas has to a membership list. It is revised annually before the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (held in April) and renewed every six years, when everyone has to complete a new form. 2019 is a year of renewal, with the renewal taking place from 24 February to 7 April 2019. Application forms can however be completed at any time, though no changes are made to the roll (except for corrections) between the end of the renewal/revision and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (28 April 2019).

Application forms

Paper copies of the application form are available from the reception area at St Barnabas and from Christ’s Chapel. Click the link for a PDF version that can be downloaded. The PDF form can be either printed and completed on paper, or filled in on-screen. Completed forms should be returned to St Barnabas or Christ’s Chapel (addressed to the Electoral Roll Officer) or may be emailed to er@stbarnabasdulwich.org.

Eligibility

The minimum age for entry on the roll is 16, but a 15-year-old may complete a form and will be added to the roll on reaching the age of 16.

You are eligible to be on the roll if you are a baptised member of the Church of England (or of a Church in communion with the Church of England) and resident in the parish. If you live outside the parish, you also have to have “habitually attended public worship in the parish during the period of six months prior to enrolment”. You can find out whether you live in the parish by visiting www.achurchnearyou.com and entering your postcode.

You are also eligible if you are a member in good standing of a Church (not in communion with the Church of England) which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, and also declare yourself to be a member of the Church of England, and have habitually attended public worship in the parish during the period of six months prior to enrolment.

The significance of being on the roll

Only those on the roll may be elected to the Parochial Church Council, or serve as stewards/sides(wo)men. Unless you are under 18, you have to have been on the roll for six months before standing for election to the Parochial Church Council.
