Supporting Ukraine

The Holy Family by Kelly Latimore (2018)

In addition to offering socials and ESOL classes and guests, we want our Ukrainian guests to feel welcome at all of our services and events. Key events they might like to come along to are:

Wednesdays at 10:30am: Holy Communion & Coffee (with a lunch for older people once a month). Just come along!

Fridays from 9:30 – 11am: Free playgroup for children aged 0 – 5. Book here.

Fridays from 5:50 – 6:30pm: Free Children’s Choir Practice with an experienced music teacher. Tea & Coffee for grown-ups. Just come along!

Many households at St Barnabas have offered homes and sponsorship to a number of adults and children from Ukraine who are relatives of Ukrainian nationals in our Church and wider community. We are also beginning to work with other households in the local community, and Herne Hill Homes for Ukraine who are hosting, so that we might support one another in this endeavour through training, friendship, and signposting. If you’re able to offer to host, offer practical support and/or friendship, please email

‘Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another’ (John 13:34).

St Barnabas is also working in partnership with the Diocese of Southwark to support an an extended family of 9 adults and children to live locally in a Vicarage which has been offered, rent-free, for up to 12 months. Some of the family have already arrived, and we would love to give them a warm welcome by offering to furnish the house, fill the fridge with food, and supporting them with bills and living expenses for the first 3 months, until they are able to find employment.
